STROKE, MACULAR DEGENERATION, ALZHEIMER'S, BRAIN, EYE AND NERVOUS SYSTEM DISORDERS
Brain and nervous system problems can benefit from both hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and chelation therapy. Both types of treatment administered together can result in more improvement than either therapy alone.
HBOT resuscitates injured and compromised brain cells and nerves. Consistent benefits of HBOT have been reported in stroke victims, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, and macular degeneration. Other disorders of the brain and nervous system might also benefit. The retina of the eye is extension of the brain and retinal cells are highly specialized brain cells.
EDTA chelation therapy improves the flow of blood and revitalizes cell metabolism throughout the body. Middle age patients or older, with potential atherosclerosis and circulatory problems, benefit from chelation. In stroke victims, for example, chelation therapy can restore the flow of blood through blocked arteries in the region of the stroke, while HBOT can resuscitate stunned and non-functioning neurones.
A combination of 1) hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), 2) EDTA chelation therapy, and 3) nutritional supplementation offers the best chance of improvement for victims of stroke, traumatic brain injury, near drowning, cerebral palsy, and macular degeneration. Other conditions that might also benefit include ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s syndromes. Therapy is best administered in a three pronged approach. HBOT acts to revive brain or retina cells that have been compromised but are still alive, helping to restore lost function. EDTA chelation therapy increases blood flow, improving function and reducing chances for another stroke in the future. The proper combination of nutritional supplements is an integral part of a therapeutic program.

There are not many chelation clinics that also offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy and vice versa. You will need to cross reference the databases linked below.
TO FIND A HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (HBOT) FACILITY NEAR YOU
1. Click on the links below.
2. For a chamber search, enter your state as the keyword and click on "Start Search." Also search surrounding states.

http://1800woundcenter.org
Many HBOT facilities will only treat a few conditions and only a few free-standing facilities will treat cerebral palsy, stroke, brain injury, some diabetic ulcers, and conditions not yet approved by the FDA. Telephone and ask questions. The response you get should provide you with information about treated conditions. You may get some inappropriate answers.
With a few tries you should find a selection of facilities closest to you. Scroll down and look at all responses. Click on each of the 3 links above to search for hyperbaric oxygen facilities. Then telephone to ask about condiions treated, prices, medical staff on the premises, etc.
Some HBOT facilities do not have fully trained and medically credentialed staff in attendance. Most hospital based facilities refuse to treat a wide range of conditions that are not yet approved by the FDA. Be sure to ask. Medical insurance will commonly refuse to reimburse for so-called off-label conditions not yet approved by the FDA.
For full benefit, it is best to receive a series of daily treatments, four days per week or more, sometimes twice daily, for several consecutive weeks. It may therefore be more convenient to find housing close to the Clinic during a course of therapy.
Patients come from around the world for therapy at the Mount Rainier Clinic, near Seattle. Prices are reasonable and inexpensive housing is available close by. The staff is exceptionally well qualified. Click below for links to the clinic website.

TO FIND A CHELATION PROVIDER NEAR YOU
BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT POORLY TRAINED AND UNSCRUPULOUS PROVIDERS:
-> In some cases, chelation treatments are given too rapidly to achieve full benefit (less than 3 hours)
->A less effective form of calcium EDTA is infused rapidly, instead of disodium EDTA that has been proven in more than 40 years of clinical use.
->So-called intravenous Plaquex (a phospholipid formula) is sometimes recommended. This may temporarily relieve symptoms but there is no evidence that it brings lasting benefit.
->Ineffective and potentially dangerous forms of EDTA by mouth or rectal suppository are sometimes recommended. Those treatments may remove a small amount lead from the body, but there is no evidence that this benefits atherosclerosis or cardiovascular disease.
->Educate yourself and investigate for competence and scientific training before selecting a provider. Ask hard questions.
->Do not fall for the heavy metal detoxification sales pitch. EDTA has virtually no effect on mercury or arsenic toxicity, while a simple nutritional supplement containing DMSA, now available without a prescription, removes lead, mercury and arsenic much more effectively, without the need to leave your home. There is no scientific evidence that benefits of EDTA chelation to treat age-related cardiovascular disease are a result of heavy metal detoxification. There are many other more important benefits.
->Bear in mind that chelation practitioners need only to pay membership dues to be a referral list available at the following telephone number.THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT: Names on the referral list only include chelation providers who pay yearly membership dues to the American College for Advancement in Medicine. Not all on that list are equally qualified. Other chelation providers may be equally well qualified and belong to other professional organizations, especially those who practice in countries other than the USA.
To telephone for a referral list call: 1-888-439-6891. Ask for as many names and numbers as you can get, so that you have a choice and can find the best.
You can a access a referral list of chelation practitioners directly on the internet at:
-> www.acam.org
The link below may also help to find a chelation provider, especially outside the USA
Much more information can be also found on Dr. Cranton’s Internet website at:
www.drcranton.com-> To further help you in your selection of a chelation provider you should read Dr. Cranton’s book, Bypassing Bypass Surgery. To order a copy call 1-800-742-5682, or 1-360-458-1077. The book is also available on amazon.com.
For technical details, including the many scientific studies and clinical trials supporting chelation therapy, you are directed to Dr. Cranton’s TEXTBOOK ON EDTA CHELATION THERAPY.
In your search for the right chelation clinic we suggest that you first ask questions on the telephone; then visit the prospective clinic in person. The practitioner and staff will usually answer questions and show you around without charge, if no service is provided and you visit only to become acquainted:
-> Interview the health care providers and staff
-> Take a tour of the clinic.
-> Talk with patients while they receive chelation therapy.
-> Are the health care providers fully licensed and credentialed?
-> Are adequately trained staff present?
-> Is the clinic sanitary, modern, and professional?
-> Are procedures described below, in Dr. Cranton’s books, and on his website being followed?BE CAUTIOUS if any of the following practices (that Dr. Cranton warns against) are being used:
*** Are EDTA infusions being given in less than 3 hours? Half the dose in half the time may be beneficial, but is not as effective. A full dose in less than 3 hours can be dangerous. Shorter treatments benefit only the provider, by reducing overhead expenses for expensive floor space and nursing staff.
*** Are treatments for atherosclerosis given which contain no EDTA (so-called nutritional IV's). These may be useful separately or for other reasons but they do not substitute for EDTA chelation therapy. Dr. Cranton sees no reason to give an infusion without EDTA during a course of chelation therapy and he adds vitamins and other ingredients directly into the EDTA chelation infusion at no extra charge.
*** Is hydrogen peroxide or ozone given as part of a chelation program? We know of no evidence that either ozone or intravenous hydrogen peroxide provide additional benefit to EDTA for treating heart and artery disease. They may be useful in other ways, but there is no evidence for such treatment of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Cranton does not consider these a part of the chelation protocol.
*** Is so-called “Plaquex” (an IV infusion of phospholipids) being given as a treatment for atherosclerosis, instead of EDTA? Plaquex may temporarily relieve symptoms, but there is no scientific evidence for lasting benefit
*** EDTA does not remove mercury and arsenic. DMSA by mouth is the best treatment for mercury and arsenic removal and does not require a prescription. Intravenous DMPS is obsolete, potentially toxic, and no longer recommended.
*** Are trace elements such as zinc, selenium, chromium, manganese, and copper added to the intravenous infusion? Trace elements are best given by mouth and have a potential for serious side effects given intravenously. (Magnesium, however, is safe and useful in the chelation infusion.)
*** Is EDTA administered by mouth or suppository? EDTA is not absorbed by those routes (less than 7%)—although some deceptive advertisers claim otherwise using data they produce themselves. Dr. Cranton also considers EDTA by mouth or suppository as potentially harmful. Read more about this on Dr. Cranton’s Internet website.
*** Don't fall for the "nanobacteria" sales pitch. The "nanobacteria" story is being used in a deceptive way to market EDTA suppositories. The data used to support that theory are unproven and have to some extent been discredited. For more on nanobacteria see Dr. Cranton’s Internet website.
*** Read the instructions on Dr. Cranton’s internet website how the correct dose of EDTA is computed individually for each patient, including all of the ingredients in each chelation infusion, with detailed written instructions for doctors and nurses.
If a clinic or provider is not following this scientifically proven protocol, ask hard questions and assure yourself about the scientific background and competence of the provider. We increasingly hear of very strange, exploitive, and sometimes dangerous practices deceptively being marketed as chelation therapy. If you have a good feeling about the clinic and staff, in light of the above, then go for it!
You are welcome to print out the full Protocol and Nurse's Orders for EDTA Chelation Therapy from Dr. Cranton’s Internet website (scroll down, this is a long page) and ask your provider to follow that protocol during your course of therapy (also found in Dr. Cranton’s TEXTBOOK ON EDTA CHELATION THERAPY. Expect some disagreement and variations from clinic to clinic. Ask questions and then decide what is best for you.
If methods differ from what is recommended above, ask to see scientific evidence for safety and effectiveness for any deviations from the published protocol. The studies summarized on Dr. Cranton’s website document safety and effectiveness from more than 50 years of clinical experience and more than million patients. If you are told about a new "Swiss Study" or something similar which alters the protocol, ask to read a copy. You will probably find that either it does not exist, is not a scientific study, or states something quite different. It is relatively easy to design and publish a sham study to make it deceptively appear scientific. Opponents of chelation have been doing this for years. Examples of deceptive studies are critiqued on Dr. Cranton’s Internet website and in his books._____________________________________________
