Dr. Cranton has retired.

Follow the links below. It leads to other links to help you find a potential provider.

(We have no way to know who is well qualified and who is not. Enough information is provided in the various links that you can make telephone calls, make  preliminary inspection visits, ask questions and investigate this for yourself.) Please read this information carefully.

The below linked directories of HBO chambers are only available for the United States.    WARNING: Some listed clinics may be using low pressure plastic bags, approved only for mountain sickness, and not fireproof in 100% oxygen. This is not considered to be full HBO Therapy. Check in advance.  Please insure that fully trained personnel are on site.

Many HBOT facilities will only treat a few conditions now approved by the FDA and Medicare. Generally, only free-standing facilities not installed in a hospital will treat cerebral palsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, many non-healing ulcers that do not meet strict criteria, and other conditions not yet approved by the FDA (see a more complete list of off-label conditions below). Non-healing diabetic and ischemic ulcers are now covered if they meet certain strict criteria. The listed HBO facilities in the below linked directories can provide you with further information about treated conditions if you telephone.

Some HBOT facilities do not have fully trained and medically licensed staff in attendance.

Hospital facilities usually refuse to treat conditions that are not yet approved by Medicare and the FDA. Be sure to ask. Medical insurance will often refuse to reimburse for conditions not yet approved by the FDA.

Don’t be fooled by claims that a thin plastic bag can provide full hyperbaric oxygen therapy. To safely administer conventional HBOT requires  more elaborate equipment. It is true that 1.3 times atmospheric pressure (5 psi) of ambient air (not oxygen) can safely be pumped into portable bags, much like an air mattress. They are FDA approved for use with air (not oxygen) to treat altitude sickness. It is also true that 1.3 atmospheres of ambient air pressure may be of slight benefit for some conditions, especially if a bit of breathed oxygen is added with a concentrator through a mask. The problem arises when concentration 100% oxygen is used. Most portable plastic bags are not fire proof or rated for safety with 100% oxygen therapy. They are not considered safe from an explosion hazard in the presence of 100% oxygen. A minor spark from static electricity could cause a major disaster. Check in advance.

For full benefit, it is best to receive a series 30 to 40 of treatments fairly close together, preferable two or more times per week for a number of consecutive weeks.

Twice daily treatments are possible if separated by at least 4 hours. If a facility cannot be found within a reasonable distance, it may be more convenient to find housing close to the HBO facility while receiving therapy. For more information
